MATHIAS SCHMIED
in art, by a Fine contributor, August 24th, 2010The uncertainty principle has a stronghold for Mathias Schmied, he strips his works to the foundation and builds it back up for ambiguous analysis

He empties the image and removes it from anything that would make it explicit. Put to the test of his cutting board, a magazine photo or comic strip picture is removed from linear representation and becomes a complex or more uncertain graphic object.

When the paper is torn, so is the framework of ordinary, righteous perception. Shmied rattles the established codes of presentation and stimulates the play of unthought readings.

Mathias Schmied was born in 1976 in Bern, Switzerland. He lives and works in Crest ( France ). Having earned his post-diploma at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts of Lyons, he first exhibited at the Oliver Houg gallery in Lyons back in 2003, then at the Fiac in Paris, in New York, Toronto, Zurich and Rotterdam.
